My God! — It’s Full of Stars!, 2018
Full duration: 25 minutes
Unfiltered 4K subway footage, 5.1 audio, ‘2001: Space Odyssey’ soundtrack.

In Stanley Kubrick’s ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’, the “Star Gate sequence” is the psychedelic start of the film’s final chapter. Arthur C. Clarke’s novel 2001 adds astronaut Dave Bowman’s final transmission to Earth before entering the wormhole:

“The thing’s hollow—it goes on forever—and—oh my God!—it’s full of stars!”

In the continuous stream of futures delivered by technologists, the present is a nuisance to be overcome through innovation. In such a world, can science fiction provide the critical, perspective-shifting roll it once could? ‘Full of Stars’ strips the ‘2001’ future-fantasy bare by recreating the “Star Gate sequence” with the optics of an NYC subway, transporting us back to the here and now.
